If your home has particularly hard water (and lots of Guelph homes do,) and especially in cases where there isn’t a water softener in the home, we’ll find scale build-up on fixtures like bathroom faucets, kitchen deck faucets, and shower heads.
The problem is two-fold. First, that scale is really unsightly. Second, the functionality of the fixtures is compromised by the build-up.
An easy solution is to call a Guelph Plumber who can come to your home and help you resolve the issue. But, there are other fairly simple steps to try on your own. One simple and also eco-friendly way to approach the problem is to use vinegar. You can clean stainless fixtures and items like aerators, often with dramatically-good results, with a good douse of vinegar. My suggestion, if the scale has built up a fair bit over time, is to soak the fixture for a while in a bowl of vinegar. A product like CLR can also be used in the same way.
If those steps don’t work, and the scale is so hard you can’t remove it, it’s time to call in an expert. Ask a Guelph Plumber to service or replace the fixture, and give some consideration to adding a water softener to your home, in order to avoid the same problem occurring down the road.
